4 springs with 0.09

Can I use 4 springs with 0.09/0.42 strings on my RG3120 with Lo-Pro? I'm hoping to get a bit more sustain this way but I'm not sure if this is possible.

yes. but you'll need to remove that little piece that holds the springs down. and you'll have to back off the spring-claw quite a bit. I don't know if it'll make a lot of difference in sustain.
you may want to try a hipshot tremsetter. but it'll change the feel of the tremolo.

In my experience with strats, sustain in the springs comes in proportion to how taut, or stiff they are. Less springs pulled tighter, I believe, equals more sustain, although it doesn't do that much. A good way to tell is to scrape them with your pick. They slacker they are, the quicker they absorb vibration.

Re: 4 springs with 0.09

I just fixed a problem that I have been trying to fix for a long time. I put 2 stiff springs in it and 2 less stiff springs. Now I have 4 springs with a standard 0.09 string configuration.

My sustain is has improved alot. It's more than twice as much. And I'm really not lying. Finally my notes ringout slowly instead of quite abrupt.

Just one little problem now. I can't use the little stringholder thing that you put on the strings normally since I have 4 springs now. I hope it doesn't cause any problems.

Maybe something (and I really don't know what) was wrong with a few of the older springs. My sustain has doubled and that should not be expected from a simple spring change. However......

I'm VERY happy with this!

if you put 4 springs in there with 9's, you'll bottom out the tremeolo. That actually will give you great sustain, since the bridge will be touching the body. Especially if you yank out the little piece of rubber under the bridge.

Azrael. I took off all those little spring holders on about 5 RGs and never had a problem, so I wouldn't worry about it.
Glad you got the problem fixed.
