5- way selector switches are fried? Wierd...

Alright this is soo wierd. Me and my friend just bought some new Dimarzios to replace the stock pickups in our RG550 and RG770DX.

So we both replaced the pickups on our own but we are all now experiencing the same problem. When you switch to the bridge pickup it is dead unless you pull the switch towards you.

Now I know that we're probably going to end up replacing them. But I just want to know what caused this! Both of us have the exact same problem and we did each job on our own using different equipment at a different time.

Anybody who knows what is going on, give me a tip! Thanks!

I beleive you wired them wrong. Follow this. I have rewired my JEM & a RG570 using this with no problems, you also have to look at what selector (5 way) you use, some alternate pins, others are in staright line.

It works but the 5-way doesn't work on the bridge pickup unless I wiggle the switch towards me (in a sideways motion-not changing the pickup selection).

Sounds like either a cold joint, or youve applied too much heat to the switch itself, which would fry it. What wattage soldering iron are you using? ITs almost impossible to say for sure whats wrong with your wiring job without having a tech look at it himself. Unfortunately its all down to how you wired the damn thing

The Ibanez switches aren't great - if you overheated the lug while soldering onto it, sometimes the glue, or whatever it is that secures them onto the fibreboard body of the switch can melt, the terminal rotates a little bit and only makes a connection in a slightly adjusted position (ie: when you pull the switch knob towards you) - if you are doing standard JEM wiring, you can swap a Dimarzio switch for the Ibanez, and they are about 1000% higher quality than the standard Ibz switch (although you need to use a US switch knob, or adjust the lever width on the switch into the bargain).

Cheers

David
