7620 setup headaches - help!!

I recently bought a 7620 and the tremelo bridge was at the incorrect angle (too high from the body). I dont have much experience setting up floyds so Ive been working off the tech tips on this site. I released the tension off the strings a bit and tightened the spring scews at the back to bring the bridge down to around the correct level, although I screwed the springs as much as they would go but I still couldnt get the bridge at the "neutral" level, but just above. Okay, so I then lowered the action a little and retuned and now the bridge is back to where it was - way too high!! I cant screw the 3 springs tighter any more. What do I do???!!!!!

Thanks!

try to put them from | | | position to /|\ .
if that doesnt work, either get an extra spring and set them || || or get a lower gauge strings. 09-46+52 works fine with 3 springs for me.

you prolly have something like 10-46+56 or even thicker if 3 springs cant handle it.

Seconded. Add another spring or get thinner strings. Either that, or maybe threaten it with violence if it doesn't comply.

I had to add a fourth spring to my 7620 in order to get it to "comply" with my demand to use a set of 10's. Sort of annoys me, but I'm thinking of switching to 9's anyway and I'm sure three springs would work perfectly with that since it was really, really close with 10's.

Re: 7620 setup headaches - help!!

My 7420 needs three springs tuned BEADGBE with a low 64 on the 'B', and its nowhere near the end of its travel.

However, the Lo-Pro is a different beast.

That said, /|\ is actually weaker than |||. Go for four springs if thats what you need, because what you are doing so far is correct.

Did you lower the action to lower the action or to try and increase tension? Because you shouldn't do it or the second reason

Oh, and are you a member of sevenstring.org? I heartily recommend it.

i dont think it's weaker, it's just spongier.
and 3 springs definately doesnt work with 10's on japan 7's

edit: Low B 64?! wow i use 52's.

Re: 7620 setup headaches - help!!

got me fair and square i forgot about 7420. must be the TRS that's keeping those 10's at the right angle.

when i had 7620 fitted with 10's the trem was barely low enough to stay in the studs i didn't try anything else than 9-46+52 on the 2027 tho.

edit: i just remembered there are different types of springs. someone else on this topic, i dont know much.

Re: 7620 setup headaches - help!!

Well I added another spring, retuned and it is perfect! I also had to readjust the neck because the high E was slipping off the board, but now its set up great, plays so much better and is truly a shred machine! Im mightily impressed with the quality of the 7620, mines a 2000 and it feels every bit as good as the K7's and 1527's Ive played, in fact I think its better. What a bargain, mines in essentially brand new condition and I paid 750 Australian compared to 1900 to buy a new 1527 or about 3500 for the K7! Thanks for everyones help and advice in setting it up, much appreciated.
