Re: 89 540S Project

Just thought id update this thread with some more photos

Here are the new electronics installed (new 500K pots and i took apart the 5 way switch and cleaned it out)

The backplate for the electronics already had an aluminum covering, so i just needed to cover the trem backplate. A glue stick and some heavy duty aluminum foil did the trick!

Everything soldered together (the ground wires show in the pic below are incorrect, i thought you were supposed to ground to the wall but realize now that it goes straight to the output jack)

*forgot to mention that i did not wire the tone pot, i wanted to hear how it sounds, hard to say but i think it sounds brighter.

Nice work, did you do any finish sanding between or after applying the tung? I'm almost done my saber, but after seeing the pics, yours has a nicer sheen to it and I'm trying to get a like finish.

No finish sanding.. i just sanded the body down to 400 grit and applied tung oil with some paper towels. I did the tung oil three times total and thats it. I waited 24 hours between applications.

That is absolutely stunning. Nice work on the refinish, and adding the headstock plate is an awesome touch. Good stuff!!

Re: 89 540S Project

the wood is really nice. Shame it was covered up by the paint in the first place I think you got really lucky with how straight and consistent the grain is! Very impressive. You've really worked hard on that.
