'89 RG570 restoration tips please

Ok, guys I got a great project here. I just got a new to me 1989 RG570 that needs some work. The body and neck are in great shape for an 18 yr old guitar. The "tech" that did the wiring sucked, but I can fix that, no problems.

The real issue is the Floyd Rose. The axe has very heavy strings on it right now. I want to put .010s on it. And it's got some light rusting on the non chrome parts, so I'm thinking it will have to be disassembled to be restored. I saw an intonation tool for these, but I can't remember where. Can someone give me a link or point me in the right direction?
Also, where's a good site to get parts from? I need a fine tuner and a bar for the 'Rose.

On a side note. I've always wanted a RG550, but the deal I got on this RG570 was too good to pass up. Would it be blasphemy to put a pick guard on a 570?

Check out guitarpartsdepot.com for the parts. Not sure if they sell the intonation tool or not.

That's a great site with lot's of excellent info on it. Rich's guide has helped me a lot on this project. Thanks!
The ol' RG is all cleaned up and waiting for a couple new parts, a new pick up and a new set of strings! But I still need to find an intonation tool. Allparts is sold out and they said it would be several months before they got one in

Well they don't even make an Ibanez Edge Tool anymore, so I don't know how they would get one in.

But yes, post pics please!

Well, I've given up on the "tool". I guess I'll have to set intonation the hard way. I'll post pics of work in progress soon.
Also, those fools at Guitar Center told me it was an '89 when I bought it. After researching the serial number, it's a '93. Oh well, I still love this guitar. Sorry to mislead anyone.

Mock up w/SD pickups, '59 in neck and JB in bridge (I'm not happy with the sound of either of these)

Re: '89 RG570 restoration tips please

Regards to the intonation, theres a few ways to set it without doing it the hard way as you mentioned.

If I remember rightly, There's a few tools about named something like "trem clamp", it basicly takes hold of your tremelo arm (when you get one) and stops the bridge from going back.

another way is to make a block out of a piece of wood and insert it in the rear cavity (keeping your bridge parallel with the body) and that should pretty much lock the bridge while you do the intonation, then take it out and done.

Or the hard way which isn't all that hard ; )

Re: '89 RG570 restoration tips please

On all the floyd variants with that kind of locking allen screw, I find it easiest to use a slim pair of needle-nosed pliers. The back of the bridge acts as a fulcrum and its really easy to move the saddle back and forth. I don't even slack the string if I am moving the saddle toward the neck. I've been intonating floyds and Edges for since the 80's and never bothered with any of the special tools.

Here's the correct link w/the SD pickups
http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y90...100_0222-1.jpg

This is just a "mock up" for now. I'm wanting on some Dimarzios.
Breed for the bridge. I haven't decided for the neck, but I'm leaning toward a Paf Pro.

Also after playing the RG for a few band rehearsals, the position of the volume pot really cramps my style. I'm going to move it to the tone pot position and eliminate the tone control as I don't ever use it anyway. Yes I may lose a little bit of tone control.
