A couple of tremolo questions...

Hi there, I have a few questions which I just need cleared up by the experts (you dudes!)

1) Would replacing a TRS Pro (on a yamaha pacifica 821D) with an Official Floyd Rose Pro make that much of a difference- Would it keep me in tune much more and would it benefit my sustain/tone? (I already have FRP, and I asked Aidy at Soundcontrol in manchester- he said it wouldn't make much difference so I'm confused after reading opposite opinions in Ed romans place and the FR website)

2) Do more trem springs and less spring tension/ or same amount of springs with a different arrangement benefit tuning? Or does it work the other way or does it not matter?

3) My springs a much more flexible now than what they were a while ago- should I replace them?

4) If I did replace the trem, how would the 'feel' of the new trem differ to my TRS? Wud it be more sensitive, smoother, get more pull on it etc?

Thanks alot- and please answer my questions I'm kinda desperate as I have gigs coming up in the coming months :S (hardly eva gigged: quite young) and in my solos I do tend to use a mixture of Harmonics, Vibratos, *Divebombs and major pull ups*- so I need to be able to rely on my trem for tuning stability, and I do like to sustain notes too.
Because it's a trs *PRO* it wouldn't need any routing for the FRPro to go in except for the pivot screws would it?
If Aidy asks me why I want the FRPro puttin' in what should I say?

Thanks agen- sorry if this post dragged a bit :S
Regards
Jonny

Re: A couple of tremolo questions...

If the TRS is anything like the TRS on the Ibnaez guitar (which I think it is) then you will get an improvement in stability of the trem because the FR is made better metal.

Re: A couple of tremolo questions...

BTW If the TRS is the same sort of thing as Ibanez's, the originals floyd should fit nice and snuggly.

Re: A couple of tremolo questions...

Measure the posts. Most Yamaha Pacificas I've had (RM-ProII trems) had different stud spacing than a Floyd. If it's the same, the Floyd should work fine. The Yamaha trems had some cool innovations, but the pivot points were softer than an OFR, so the swap might be worth it - IF your current rig is going out of tune. Locking trems shouldn't do that.

Re: A couple of tremolo questions...

The post spacing is different, is it possible to fill them in or somet and then drill new ones to accomodate the new posts in the right positions?

Re: A couple of tremolo questions...

Hey dudes, turns out the trem post spacin was n is the same! The fine tuners are slightly offset to the right so Me and my dad just took about 3-5 mm off and nail varnished the cavity! We got it in and now I really do stay in tune!
Cheers!
