A few minor problems on my new jem...

Hello-

Just got a 7VSBL, and its a great guitar. However, im a bit dissapointed with a few things....the neck is a little ify (dirty 20-24 frets, good fretwork but should be better, prestige neck feels great but needs spot sanding) some clear coat problems in the monkey grip and inside the jack cavity, ect...all things I can either fix or can live with though. BTW, I just set it up with .10s tonight, and it sounds phenomenal!

Quick question, and it seems pretty simple but I didn't want to do anything until I got some jemsite opinions. I was trying to remove the truss rod cover. The bass side screw and the center line screws came out fine, but the treble side screw just keeps on rotating...it won't come out, but just spins around. Neck needs a little relief, but is otherwise fine as of now. What should I do to fix this?

Seems the hole is stripped already...you can kinda stick a small flat screwdriver under the head of those screws and with your other hand screw them out while gently lifting with the flat screwdriver. Once it's out, you gotta fill and redrill. Or at least stick a piece of toothpick in it to make the hole tighter for the screw...

Get a razor blade or something else thin and slip it under the head of the screw. Then apply light upward pressure as you're unscrewing it. The threads should engage on something or at some point the screw will just pop out. It doesn't really matter because its stripped anyway. You'll have to fill it. For a tiny hole like that I wouldn't do the whole toothpick fill and redrill thing. You can just take some thin superglue and get a little in there with a toothpick or something and line the hole with it. It will swell the inside of the hole so you have good bite again. You can even use wood glue or really anything. Its such an unimportant screw. It carries no load so you just have to get it to bite.

Ankhnaten and I answered at the same time, so I don't want it to look like my post was answering his, because we basically said the same thing. Great minds think alike I guess

Well hopefully the screw itself isn't stripped, but from the sounds of it the screw isn't holding like it should. Have you tried turning the guitar upside down just to see if it falls out. If so then no biggie. If not still no biggie. From my experience if the screw isn't holding like it should then just take your screwdriver, and slowly turn the screw out. While you do this just pinch the head of the screw with your freehand, and go slowly!(you don't want to slip, and gouge your guitar now!) Now if your screw is giving you the problem I think it is your going to have to pull up gently, and try getting the screw to turn naturally, and come out, but more than likely it'll end up just coming straight out. Once you have it out it's really your call. You could fill the hole, and redrill, or just leave the truss rod cover off for good, and lock it away in the case. Personally I think they just get in the way, and always leave them off my guitars!

Well it was the screw, thankfully I think I saw some clear come with it.

I grabbed a truss rod cover screw off my rg520 and it worked perfectly. I like the idea of keeping the cover off, but I only anticipate doing truss rod adjustments a few times a year. I think it looks purty

And Rich..well...what can ya say?

You guys rock for being so fast!

Did you try unscrewing it again to check?

Si senor...its all good!

Rich...not that it means anything, but I am rip**** in a way for not doing biz with you on this axe. Obviously this was a redonkular deal, but still. Your an amazing asset to this community. Next guitar is coming from Ibanezrules...unless the Ibanez 2004 line gets the "Really Pro Edge"

BTW, have you noticed any trem issues (ie post, knife edge problems) on Ibanez guitars from 2002? Mine seems fine so far, but didn't know if it was a possibility...my RG was a victim

Pffft, I'm just padding my post count

Yea, but rarely. Nearly all of them will pass a pullup test with flying colors

If you always expect some paint issues in the grip you'll never be disapointed The frets corrode like a mother sitting in cases or boxes. Fresh from Japan they could use a cleaning.

Agreed. Most of my frets were tarnished, especially the higher ones. I've got them all nice and shiny but also got a nice blood blister in the process. Everything else was spot on, however.
