Acrylic guitar

Hey guys,
ive build guitars before and im quite familiar with how to do things but i was wondering if anyboy has tried making and acrylic guitar before kinda like the dan armstong ones and if you could give me any tips if you have done.
I really fancy having a go at making one myself and thought id see what you guys would have to say before hand.

Re: Acrylic guitar

It would be nearly impossible, unfortunately.

After acrylic has been cut, it needs to be polished like crazy. If you could have somebody do that for you, then I don't see why you couldn't.

Re: Acrylic guitar

What's nearly impossible about it? Acrylic is quite easy to polish. If you can get the materials and get the body constructed in tact, getting the polishing done is the easy part.

Re: Acrylic guitar

You could cast one. Make a mold of an RG or whatever, then cast it with resin. Materials would cost $150-$200. Probably be easier than machining one from a solid block. And there would be less finish work, particularly in the cavities.

Or it could turn out to be a complete disaster and you've just wasted $200.

Re: Acrylic guitar

Play one before you go through the trouble. The ones I've played are super super heavy.
