Adding a pickguard

Is it possible for me to add a pickguard to an RG1570? I'm apprehensive about drilling anything into my guitar without reassurance. >_<

I love the look of guitars with pickguards, and the RG1570 has everything I need. Or should I just go for the 2550 because it comes with a pickguard so I don't have to put holes in a guitar?

Re: Adding a pickguard

Hey
I was in the same place you were, I have a RG560 and I really wanted a mirror pickguard (I do have experience with modding guitars) but I have never added a pickguard to a non-pickguard guitar, I planned everything out and went over to my buddies house, with his router, I made the knob holes bigger and the 5 way switch route bigger, so that they would screw onto the pickguard itself (I also made the neck single route a humbucker) then I lined up the actual pickguard to the body, marked off the holes, and drilled for the screws, it was piece of cake! but I don't know if you want to do that to a RG1570...

The selector switch isn't made to go the extra length. You might get away with putting the knobs back on the shafts further out but the switch will be the problem. Buy something with a guard if you must have a guard.

Routing isn't needed.

If you buy one of the pickguards from pickguard paradise all you need to worry about it drilling the mounting screws.

Re: Adding a pickguard

Buy the RG2550.
That way, you'll end up with TWO guitars instead of one!

Re: Adding a pickguard

here's a 570 with a custom pickguard added. I have done a few of these as I find some of the finishes boring. You know, 10,000 production guitars all painted silver....
