alternate method for floating trem, any one else?

i was pretty bored one night at 3 in the morning and got to thinking about what vai did to the green meanie(chunking out wood so he could whammy up.) i was messin around with my trem springs on my lyon (by washburn) le10 strat copy (only down whammys ) and took out 2 of 3 spring for a tension decrease, i had 2 srtings already strung and noticed the tension was pulling it up, so i could now whammy up, but not down then my brain farted one more time and i thought to myself... hmm.... if i set up my trem like so I<I with two springs i could do both. so i set it with just two springs in an outward v pattern and strung it up to standard. vualla (or however its spelled) lol, got my custom vintage style homade non locking floyd rose trem!! anyways...any one else stupid enough as me to try this?

You can achieve trem pull-up ability with three springs (or even more) by shimming the neck and raising the bridge above the surface of the body. This works on any two-post knife-edge trem... dunno about a 6-screw "vintage" style bridge. You have to raise the pickups a bit as well, but it works.

For some reason, everyone thinks back-routing is the only way to go. Brad Gillis actually started the whole "chisel out a chunk of wood from behind the trem" trend on his old mongrel strat with the original Floyd with no fine tuners. Some players like having the strings, trem and pickups practically flush with the face of the guitar. Personally, i don't care much for it, and i find shimming the neck a bit is a cleaner solution that leaves more wood in the body.

By the way, "home made Floyd Rose" is a bit of a misleading topic... how about "alternate method for a floating trem"?
