Should I make it in to Natural Wood like the other person here?

Or should I try to play TimaFedes, and learn swirl for the first time ever on this beast!!!

I agree with JEMavenger.

I have a 520QSTB as well and I just love the way it looks as is.

I just changed the pups to Evos and I'm very happy with it.
Oh, and popped in a Super Switch so I could play around with about 100,000 or so different wirings.

Those knobs you have on there, if you like em that's good, but YEESH! :P J/K

Again, I'd leave it as is, maybe change the hardware for something brighter or darker, new knobs and/or pickup rings but I'd leave the finish just as is, I think they are beautiful, if a little dark.

Good lord, next time try harder to talk me out of these projects!!!!

I started sanding at 10:30 AM, with a small electric sander. Now it is past 5PM, I have just got the paint sanded off on the front and back, havnt even gotten the veneer top off, or the paint from the sides, and the back relieve yet.

Will post pictures when I get home. This is definetly a PITA!!!!!!!

'Told ya to leave it alone.

There's a reason it's so hard to take that finish off . . . The Powers that Be are punishing you for taking off that nice finish. :P

Just joking, looking forward to the pics. It's your guitar, do as you will with it.

Hopefully it will be worth all the work.

I used a heat gun on mine and sanded the crap out of it with an orbital. I planed the top veneer off and I am really happy with the results. May I suggest a color stain and then a satin clear....that would look sweet. I did the tung oil and I love it but would like to see one with color on it.

Just got back from watching the Matrix. Will post pics tomorrow night (Unless I go see X2)

I hate to line quote, it makes it look like a smackdown, but this is by no means the case here. So here it goes.

Try using the orbital to sand off the paint and the veneer...

Didnt have one, or trust my self with one for that (I caught the oven on fire cooking, I have since rested my status as the natural born Pyromania)

Since your 520 is my inspiration behind this project to begin with.

Tell me how and I will try it. If I F it up, I figure I can always take a shot at a Swirl (I am too far along to give up now.)

Care to provide a link, I cant find any tele's, just some articles on staining and materials.

Here are the pics.

First this is from 10:30 to 6 pm's results with this orbital sander. (notice the sander that was used, using 140 grit sandpaper)

This is today with some better tools (Ryobi orbital sander, from 100 grit, Then onto 180, then to 220 grit. And a table belt sander, will post details soon) This finishing up tool only about an hour and half with the correct tools, made me kick my self for wasting an entire sunday! I will post pictures and specs of the tools later, total cost of these tools were estimated to be about $130 without the sand paper.

I think this is the one he was talking about. It's a StewMac page linked through ProjectGuitar.

That would look kind of nice either stained or sunburst...

Are you looking at solids or translucent type finishes?

I am really debating between a Swirl, or just a conventional Tung Oil.

Is Tung oil applied with a brush, or a rag?
