Anyone ever tried this?

I just got back from MusicGoRound and saw a $60 Cort strat copy. It felt pretty solid, sounded good unplugged, neck was decent (and had tiny frets ) and looked alright.

I thought it might make a good learning project to pick it up, change out the pickups and tuners, sand down the neck a bit, take the logo off the headstock paint it and give a good setup.

Anyone ever tried or had any luck upgrading a cheap, solid guitar? What were your experiences? Anyone know anything about Cort of late?

At that price I would be surprised if the body was made of real wood and not some kind of plywood.
