Best Place To Get A Body Shot With Clear?

I'm working on a new 'super-jem' project. Got a beautiful custom swirled body on the way and I need ideas on the best way to shoot it with clearcoat.

1) Automotive paint shop?
2) Reranch in a can?
3) Rent a gun and shoot it myself in my garage?

Who's done it before and how good were your results????

A local auto paint shop should be the cheapest and fastest option, assuming you can find someone who does good quality work. If you get them to shoot your guitar when they are already doing coats on a car, they probably won't charge you much.

Reranch means nitrocellulose lacquer. If you are happy with that, it could be a good choice. But if you want the more durable poly (which would be my choice on a swirl), they are out.

And doing it yourself is out for poly too, unless you have access to a real spray booth and the necessary safety equipment. Doing it yourself takes a certain amount of investment and learning curve. If you only want to do one guitar, I would say it isn't worth doing yourself. If you want to do more guitars in the future, then by all means start the learning process now. It can be both a lot of fun and a lot of work.

i wouldnt try doing poly yourself, it can be fatal, you need and air feed mask for starters that need to be be supplied from a room that your not spraying in, so thats 2 compressors. you can get cans of nitro and spray them yourself, i'll assume you have a special room that is dust and partical free to do it in. remember when considering nitro that over time it yellows. If you putting it over a swirl?

best thing to do is find someone local who can shoot poly and have a look at what they've done in the past if you can, just because they can spray a car doesnt mean that they can spray a guitar properly. maybe give em a test piece to show you what they can do. also the health risk is covered. i wouldnt hand over one of my swirls to be cleared by someone who has never sprayed a guitar before. there is also a high chance of reactions when using poly because there are so many types.

i hope this is of some help, it may have been said before but i figure another voice may help solidify it. i look forward to seeing your project. HAGO
