best strings for low action
Ok guys, i've been experimenting with different
strings
and i've noticed that different strings have different tensions. (some are more flexible than others) Having said this some strings buzz more than others. So I play 9-42s. and I have used slinkies, but i recently changed to DRs, and then d'addarios. The d'addarios buzz more than the slinkies. The DRs seem to be less flexible. But the d'addarios seem really flimsy. I had to raise the action on my guitars because of the buzzing. is this common? what are the best strings for low action?

I tried DR's but the quality was up and down plus they break easy. The 9-42 pink EBSlinky set for me have been the most stable, most consistent and 'loosest' strings. I use them on all my guitars. You milage may vary....

Little tip: There are actually only 3 or 4 string winding machines in the world. The major manufacturers strings differ mainly in how they're treated after they've been made, and to an extent they differ in materials used.
With that said, I've used d'addarios forever because to me, they last longer, are fresher out of the pack, are bright, and most importantly, I've never broken a D'addario string excpt once. Ernie balls I used to break all the time.
Edit: Also, thicker strings, up to a point, are easier to stop buzzing. The increased tension and moving mass keeps the arc of motion smalelr for a given volume. I use 10's on my S2170 and 9's on my 550 and the s2170 buzzes much less.

Re: best strings for low action
I use Rotoreds strings. They are the 11's from Rotosound. I tuned them 1.5 step down. I love the sound and they don't buzz. Now I think to buy Rotogreys, they are the 13's from Rotosound. They make the best set of 13's for me. They have the thinest low E. I love them.

Re: best strings for low action
I recently switched from Slinkies to DR extras. I keep my action slightly lower than the setup Rich has posted on his tech page. I prefer the feel and the sound. Haven't had any more problems with breaking then I did with any other string but I do a lot of whammy stuff so any string breaks a lot.
