best way to LOWER a fret?

Me and frets....this time the 24th fret is high on my 1077XL...which is the best (or less damaging!) way to lower it?...just hammer it down with some plastic? thanks!

Just give it a few taps right where it's choking. Hit it too hard and you could really set it and end up with much higher action at that fret, so tap lighter and if no effect then harder. If harder doesn't get it then sand it down.

If it's under the e's make sure the fret end isn't loose and popped up!

Once again...Rich to the rescue

I'll do that...I guess it doesn't matter that much if I set it...it's the last fret anyway

Is it possible this happens because of the neck screws? I notice there's one just behind it...

You don't understand how far some frets can be set, just tap light

I don't know if it's "because" it's missing a screw, but I can tell you it wasn't designed to only use 3

I meant is it possible the high fret was raised by overtightening the neck screws

Do I think the neck screws pushed it up? No. Unless the body has an especially deep washer depth on that screw.

Thanks....problem solved...I didn't have the guts to tap it so I 'rolled' a circular piece of wood on it, pushing down a little...perfect now
