bigsby mod?

my brother wants to find out if a bigsby trem is a worthwhile mod for a little bit of whammy for not too much hassle on a tune-o-matic stoptail arrangement he wants to convert on his jackson RR copy.
bigsby trems any good for tuning stability?

Re: bigsby mod?

Sigh. The bigsby will require a few screws. I personally wouldnt retrofit one onto a jackson rhoads v. I cant see why anyone would want a bigsby on that particular guitar. The tuning stability isnt much honestly not as good as a vintage style strat tremolo in my opinion. You cant really use the bigsby for pitch shifting either, its only good for really weak vibrato. I would be willing to bet you would have pretty big tuning stability problems due to the jackson headstock shape (since you have a bigsby you wont have locking tuners installed and the angled of hte headstock is a little uneven, but functions with a standard bridge or locking nut). Id still be curious to see what this type of guitar would look like

Re: bigsby mod?

check out the stetsbar at stetsbar.com. They make drop in replacements for tune-o-matic style bridges that are whammy bars. A little pricey but might be easier than a bigsby (and might cost just as much as the bigsby if any drilling needs to be done.) From my experience a bigsby will work well if you have certain modifications in place. Those being a graphite or other low friction nut. I recommend slip stone. You also might want some locking tuners. These are pretty compulsary on any setup with a trem that you want to stay in tune (in my opinion.) I do think that a bigsby on a rhoads V may look a little funky tho
