Blocking a floyd trem between or during a song?

I play in a cover band its always been a frustration for me that I have to take several guitars to a gig. I typically take a primary guitar which is either a hardtail or non-locking trem'd PRS for songs with a lot of double stop string bending, and then either my JS1200 or N4 with floating trems for the more modern whammy laden antics. Then I need backup's for each !

I'd love to be able to take one guitar with me to do it all. One that allows me to do Albert Lee style bends properly intonated and then dive bomb, warble and pull-up two and a half tones on harmonics.

There must be a way of easily blocking a floyd rose between/during songs. Maybe a small movable bracket, bolted to the guitar, on a pivot that you can slide under the trem that would lock it in place. It would need a clever lug to stop it from lowering too. I know EVH used to lock his trems off using a coin but I suspect this was only to lock it against the body and still allow him to lower the pitch.

Anyone know of anything on the market ?

Check out the tremlo-no on the allparts website. That sounds like your best bet.

Yup. The Tremol-no is the thing you need.

Re: Blocking a floyd trem between or during a song?

My Tremol-no is, for some reason, unable to completely stop the bridge from moving when fully locked. It's not much, but it definitely wiggles back and forth ever so slightly, and it's enough to change the pitch of the strings. Unfortunately, even the pressure of a double-stop bend is enough to move the bridge the slight amount that it will move, which somewhat defeats the purpose.

I will note, though, that the guitar it's installed in has a long-block Edge installed in a recessed body. The block is long enough that I can't put a cavity cover on the back and I have wondered whether the resulting angle the Tremol-no sits at has something to do with its less-than-stellar operation. If I could only find all the little wrenches the stupid thing came with, I'll try it on a different guitar to see if I can get it working any better.

Get a schaller trem block thingy that attaches to the front of the guitar. You can lock the trem mid song without any awkwardness and double stop, then immediately dive/warble etc, and re lock it. Jubly.
