Body Modification

Sorry, not talking about human body modification. Talking about guitar body modification.

So anyways, many months ago I mistakely bought a 470 body, when I wanted a 570 body instead. I figured since I don't want it I'll use it as a test piece and just do all sorts of stuff to it, put a jamming paint job on it and sell it for whatever it goes for. It's all in fun anyways.

So this weekend I stripped the paint off and did some routing on the body. I have JEM/RG templates, so I did a JEM handle and routed recessed areas for the trem and electronics cavity covers. I've never had a 470 before, but apparently they skimp out on recessing stuff since it takes more time on the CNC, and of course time is money.

Also filled in the instrument jack and put in two angle jacks. One for the pickups output and the other for a piezo output if the end user wanted to install a piezo system. I also routed out a cavity to access the jacks from the inside.

On the backside of the lower horn I removed quite a bit of material on that backside edge so it's not a sharp edge gouging into your arm when you go to the lower frets. I have this problem sometimes with that edge gouging in. It's not like it hurts or anything. Just feels nicer with a larger radius on it.

I'm thinking of putting a battery cavity in the back incase someone wanted to use active pickups. All cavity covers will be custom cut and painted the same color as the body.

For a paint job, I was thinking of doing the whole thing in DSY and dip it with fluorescent green, pink, red, black and maybe blue...also maybe alittle bit of white.

So that's what I've done to it so far. I wanted to get some input from you all on what else you'd like to see done to it. This body will be like the ultimate modification. Also, what kind of paint job would you like to see on it?

Thanks to those that reply.

Pics....I'll get some pics up shortly so you can see what it looks like so far.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I also routed out the trem cavity to support the Edge Pro trem if the end user wanted such.

Step away from the power tools! J/K sounds like a fun project. Don't really have ideas you seem to have done most of what I had in mind.

Re: Body Modification

I thought about recessing an area for the pickguard. And the pickups would be hard mounted to the body. What do you think about that?

Re: Body Modification

Breast enlargement is one of my favs.

I also like big puffy lips on occasion.

Really long hair is a good modification too.

Tiny waists are good.

(sorry - I had to with that title)

Re: Body Modification

I wouldn't route for a battery cavity unless I knew I was going to go with active pickups for sure.

Re: Body Modification

I think you should install a Sustainer, as opposed to active pickups. A Sustainer is cooler, more practical, and it would be about the same cost.

Re: Body Modification

But I'm not going to be installing anything on it. I'm just modding the body. The end user will install whatever they like. I'd just be adding a battery cavity just in case they wanted it. If not, then it's not hurting anything by being there.

I've also thought about cutting out some slots in the body and replacing the missing material with Bloodwood or Purpleheart, but that might be going too far.

What about inlays?

Sorry about that. I tend to get carried away fairly easily.

Re: Body Modification

if people need a battery, they'll fit one in the control cavity space. but if most people don't want a battery, they might shy away from buying yours because of the wasted wood space..

personally i wouldn't put the extra piezo routing in either, you might be cutting out half your buyers cos of a simple mod..

Re: Body Modification

Are S bodies even thick enough to be able to install a battery box?

Re: Body Modification

This isn't a S body. It's a RG470.

Ok, so no battery cavity.

Binding? I've never done binding before. Not really sure it would look good with the kind of paint job I'm think of. Might end up looking like rubbish.
