Bridge change

Hi,

I have a cheap Yamaha ERG 121 with a standard vintage trem. Lately the bridge has been breaking my strings (the nuts are worn and edgy) so I was thinking about replacing the whole bridge for a better one. I don`t know much about these things so would installing a floyd type trem be really expensive and pointless? Which vintage tremolo would you recommend? I`m gonna buy a Podxt Live and after that I`ll have some extra money so I thought I`d make same adjustments to my guitar and maybe buy hotter pups.

Thanks.

Re: Bridge change

It doesn't have to be expensive, it is a job you could do yourself with a few tools, and a little time. You need to ask your self, if the music you are playing or are going to play warrants you putting a floyd in. Maybe you should just concider a better standard trem, or if you don't really use one a fixed bridge. Everyone here seems to think a like for the most part, change your bridge and pups, but your personal taste will help to decide what you will need. I have a podXT live and I love it, you will have a lot of fun with that. My sugestion is to change your bridge and pups based on what you require, not on what everyone else has. chef21

Take a look at what Gotoh has to offer on vintage bridges you can't go wrong there. Maybe even the VS-100 with some looking tuners and you got a very stable guitar.

Re: Bridge change

Thanks for the responses.
Well, I play a lot of Vai stuff so a floyd would be most welcome. But the thing is, it is a cheap guitar and it`s probably gonna be replaced some time during the next year so I don`t know if it`s worth the money and trouble. The neck`s not that good either, it`s not in tune in the upper register and if I get a cheaper floyd and my guitar`s constantly out of tune then... But I just wanted to know, how much would it cost to make the adjustemnts necessary for a floyd. Won`t it lessen the sound quality of the body?
Thanks for the tip fettouhi, I`ll check them out.
