Buffing a finish at home. What do I need?

I understand that buffing a guitars finish can remove scratches and improve the overall look of the guitar. Since my collection is getting kind of big and i have several workhouses id like to be able to buff their finishes at home. What do I need to get started? And where can i Find some tips and tricks to help me along the waY?

Please don't laugh, but here's what I used to buff out some pretty ugly scratches on my radius:

An old shirt and toothpaste. And time. Lots of time.

The result is not really high-gloss, but it looks way better now.

Try the "Swirl and Haze Remover" from Fender.

I just bought some and it's great.

Comes with "Mist and Whipe" and polish as well.
Took most of the little pick scratches out of my 520 and the polish brought it to a mirror shine.
