Hard maple will probably be pretty bright and very heavy. But if that is what you like, go for it. There is a lot of information around on building, but most of it is going to be based on six strings. The quickest path would be to start there and make a few changes for seven string. An RG7 body is pretty much just an RG6 body with a modified neck pocket. Not a big change. There are also several places on the web where you can buy templates. Or just go to the store to trace and measure.
