Buzz Feiten Retro?

Hi all. I am very interested in getting my guitar retrofitted with the Buzz Feiten System. I have perfect pitch and a pretty sensitive ear, so im thinking this would help a ton. I live in Lowell MA and wouldn't mind shipping it somewhere (actually I would have to since there are no retrofitters in my area). The guitar to be sent out would be a RGT3120 that I am getting from Rich in a couple of months...

If you have had the retrofit, please tell me the whole deal....what guitar did you get done, where did you get the retrofit done. how long did it take, what did it cost, are you impressed with the results, ect. Also, I have a Boss TU-2 Tuner...would i have to buy (or would you strongly recommend) one of those Korg Buzz Feiten Tuners, or does a normal chromatic tuner work fine as well? Also, was the guitar still setup fine when you recieved it, or did it have to be ajusted?

As much as most people on jemsite seem to hate him, Im thinking about sending the guitar to Ed Roman...he seems to have a very good repuatation with the retrofits, and is kinda close to me. Any opinions on sending the axe to him for the retrofit?

Thanks in advance guys!

-Andrew

Well, the TU-2 is only accurate +/- 3 cents, whereas the Korg is accurate +/- 1 cent. You might want to even get a Peterson Virtual Strobe tuner, which is waaay more accurate if you have a super-sensitive ear.

Ed Roman isn't near you any more, (assuming you're still in Massachusetts)... he moved his operation to Las Vegas.

Thanks Darren-

I thought he shops in NY and Las Vegas? Not like I know much about the guy or anything. Any suggestions for retrofitters on the East Coast would be great.

About the tuner...i really love the TU-2 because it is ultra convient and I don't need a rack for it, but I have noticed that it can be a little iffy when I hit the green LED indicating that you are perfectly at the given note. The peterson looks pretty cool, but I would want something stage ready...as tough as it looks, I dont think I would want to have it on stage. Im probably going to end up with one of the new korg rack tuners. The seem like they would fit my needs, on stage, in studio and when doing setups.

Keep the suggestions flowing!

Thanks!

-Andy

You might want to look into Earvana, just to save a few bucks and do it yourself....

If you want a stage-ready tuner, they don't get much better than the rack-mountable Korg units.

I asked my luthiers about the Feiten mod, and they weren't entirely convinced. If you have a REALLY picky ear, it might smooth things out a bit, but with a properly set up guitar and an accurate tuner (like a Peterson), you'll get nearly the same result.
