Cell phone interference?

I've read and heard that guitars and/or amps can pick up radio stations. Is it possible for them also to pick up cell phone signals? Could it sound a little like morse code? Anybody have any insight on this?

Re: Cell phone interference?

My phone signals are picked up by my pickups, in both of my guitars. They only really cause a problem when they are in your pocket or otherwise close to your pickups.

Re: Cell phone interference?

When your cell phone is turned on, it's constantly searching for the strongest signal. As the phone's receiver acquires a new signal and rejects the weaker one, your pickups can certainly transmit the digital "noise" associated with the phone locking on to a new tower.

Re: Cell phone interference?

I turned my cell phone off while I practiced this afternoon for well over an hour and discovered that it was indeed the problem. If I had had it on, it would have made this nasty interference noise for at least three or four times. Mystery solved. Thanks to those who responded.
