Changing Locking Studs on my Jem7VWH

I'm trying to swap my old pair of locking stud for brand new ones, but the smaller lock-screws are stuck. I've almost broken my small allen wrench trying to get them loose. I didn't want to force it and cause serious damage to the post threads. Any suggestions?

Use the 4mm wrench, no need to unlock them first

Rich, as always, thanks for the quick response. Fresh strings and new trem studs tonight!

Why bother? With having the tension on the springs adjusted properly, there is no need for locking studs.

As Rich said, if you loosen the 4mm allen a little, they'll probably become loose as well. If you want to lower the bridge more than it was before, loosen the 1.5mm small screws inside first and then lower the bridge.

Another classic post from you. The third I've seen today which is incorrect, in fact.

Locking studs minimise the possibility of the holes becoming ovalled because they stop the trem posts from moving. For the sake of tuning stability, accurate return to pitch, and a longer overall lifespan of a guitar, those little studs are worth fitting.
