clearcoat/varnish on my neck is coming off...

Alright, so my neck is going thru some major wear and tear from about a year n a half worth of playing. there are a few spots where the varnish/clearcoat on the neck is completely off and the wood on the neck is even wearing away (this is all normal and I realize that)

my concern is this.... theres one main spot where its worn down alot, and the wood is a greenish color now.. (just in that spot where there is no finish) im wondering if this is from the lemon oil I use on my fretboard everytime I change strings? or the fender polish and **** I use? or is it nasty moldy wood due to the amount I sweat when me and my band are rockin out?

is there something I should be putting on my neck? a certian type of oil or wax?

thanks for any and all help!
-btw, its an RG1527 if that makes any difference on the neck type or something.

Try a small amount of Murphy's Oil Soap and a soft toothbrush on the dirty areas during your next string change. If you sweat a lot, you should clean the entire neck and fretboard thouroughly, every other string change. You should propbably cut back on the lemon oil as well.

If you prefer a clearcoat on the back of the neck, it's gonna eventually wear through. Your best option is to clean the dirt off, sand off the old finish and refinish with a hard poly clear.

Re: clearcoat/varnish on my neck is coming off...

I dont mind the clear coat wearing off, doesnt matter to me and its all beat to **** and theres parts with it on and parts with it off..

I clean my fretboard every string change with lemon oil, this is what I was told to do to care for my fretboard (but they said every other time) is there something wrong with using lemon oil? (I use stringfellows lemon oil)

also, if I shouldnt be using lemon oil, or not all the time, what should be used on my fretboard to care for it?

and as far as caring for an unfinished neck (where my clear coat is wearing off) what should I put on it to keep it from being damaged?

thanks for the help!
