Correct way to clean Maple fretboard...Can I get the skinny?

I just need some tips and techniques on how to clean a maple fingerboard. I have a formula from Dunlop called "Cleaner and Prep" and wanted to know if this would suffice or if I would need something else. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It might sound a little strange....but i use a good old toothbrush.

I wet it slightly with soapy water and scrub it until all the dirt and grime comes off.

This gets all the dirt off instantly - but does leave it dry.

The best thing to do after it is absolutely smother the fretboard in Lem Oil.

Then just leave it and you will have a nice shiny new-looking fretboard.

Hope that helped.

Remember that there are other great parts to this website as well as the forum.

I followed this tutorial closely on an old maple 777 board and got good results, though it was a while ago. The dirt is back now but, since the old 777 is my workhorse Jem, the dirty board kinda suits it.

I posted my results on a similar thread a while back.

Dirty board before cleaning.

Cleanish board following the whole thing, lighter fluid, steel wool etc.

There are a bunch of old topics covering this if you, um, search the forum. Good luck!
