Crack in the nut of my EB JPM!

Right on the bottom of the nut at the G string there is a little crack that's widening, and it's causing an awful buzz on that string. Is there anything I can do short of replacing the nut to fix it? It keeps the guitar going out of tune constantly as well. Any help is very appreciated!

I love my EB/MM JPM too, but it hasn't driven me to bust a nut yet.

First loosen the strings enough to where you can get a clean shot at the nut. Then, using a toothpick, fill the crack in with some super glue (after masking off the fingerboard & headstock with tape of course!). Then, apply pressure to the nut and squeeze it together. Hold it for a couple of minutes at least so that the glue can set up. Wipe away any excess glue. As long as there aren't any chunks missing from the nut, this should work fine. But, be sure to give the glue plenty of time to set up and harden before you tune the guitar back up (at least overnight).

Otherwise, you could probably get a replacement nut from Ernie Ball/Musicman, but I'm not sure that it would come pre-slotted. Even if it was, you'd most likely need to fine-tune it a bit. You could also pick up a Tusq or bone blank nut, but you'd have to slot it yourself, which can be time consuming and a bit of a pain.

No prob! I've had the same issue a couple of times on various repairs I've done. The super glue trick has worked every time Let us know how it works out!

I just ran through and checked, 11/26/01 so you're just 3 months out of warranty ;/

Let me know if you need anything or if I can help in any way!

Rich, you are one awesome guy. Thanks! If I can't superflue it, I may need some contact info for Ernie ball to get the same nut, I don't wanna tamper with any generic ones. Thanks again!

give EB/MM a call. I've owned a few and twice have had problems that where pretty much a result of wear and tear. Both times they where out of warrenty and both times they made it good at no charge. Give the service dept a call directly and they just might hook you up.
