Re: Cracks on my Jem 7 VWH
Man, where's Elcid when there's a thread about Big Hairy and cracks ?
On a more serious note -
Don't worry too much about it Big Hary. If you were to poll all the members on here I'd bet 80% of us own (or have owned) a guitar with those king of neck cracks. It's really common problem and they need to get way worse than what you've got to cause concern.

Ibanez guitars
, babied them both and they still developed this problem after only a few months, sitting in temperature controlled rooms.
Why? EBMM still hasn't figured it out on their $3000 BFR's.
This is typically caused by shipping shock, much more typical to basswood plate joint guitars, but can happen to even mahogany AANJ's like a JC that came in once with a 1/2" NJFC [or lets be real, NJC] and the trem blown off it's studs.

Re: Cracks on my Jem 7 VWH
Well shame on EBMM too in that case. That is ridic..it just seems to me that at such a high price tag you shouldnt have to worry about stuff like that. My two customs were each under 1500, and no problems (well I cant speak for the 2nd one, I'm only getting it in two days, but my first one has been flawless - even though it is a
basswood body
.)I've owned a bunch of guitars but this is the first im hearing of non-Ibby's having this problem. It's interesting, as always jemsite is a wealth of info and I always learn somethin new
. Rich we have our disagreements but thanks for the info.

Re: Cracks on my Jem 7 VWH
Its very common on the original Kramers too. Both of my Kramers have the cracks and one of them i was the original buyer of the guitar so its never left my possession except for setups. I saw this cracking literally all the time on Kramers in the 80's. Especially on tapered logo Kramers. I've never heard of anyone having a neck "blow off" because of it.
A RG770DXLB that i use to own had the same cracks as well. I don't recall any of my previous Jacksons having the cracks and I know my 2 current Jacksons do not have them either.

Re: Cracks on my Jem 7 VWH
If you like the easy access to the upper register your going to have to take these issues in stride. What is Ibanez or any superstrat style designer to do? They could make the joint thicker and we'd all complain for sure. Considering a Jem neck pushes a full inch further into the body than a strat (3 more frets) which literally removes half of the thickness of the body at a critical junction, and the back of the Jem neck joint being honed down for your comfort and you've got a lot less wood holding on the same amount of neck. So in short, Ibanez could address this issue, it would look like a Strat. I'd just as soon they leave that to Fender.

Rich do you accept guitars with this problem from Ibanez or do you send them back?

If they offered a discount I could pass on to a buyer I might keep them, but as it is, rejection.

Not absolutely necessary. Keep your guitars in their cases most of the time and they'll be fine. I keep a humidifier going in winter to benefit me more than the guitars.....
Whereabouts are you?
My 7VWH hasn't developed any cracks yet, but the old girl - a 1991 BFP - has. Not a problem.
