Custom 29/31 fret 7-string necks?
Has any of you RG7 or UV owners had a custom 7-string neck built with more than 24 frets & sucessfully retrofitted it onto your axe? Is this feasible?
A 29- or 31-
fret neck
is sounding very appealing to me. Maybe a Stephens Cutaway also. My idea is to "marry" my UV with some of the features of the old Washburn 29- & 36-fret models. HELP!

Oh yeah, and would any of you fine builders (UVJems, EKG, LGM) consider building something like this?

I remember Marshall Harrison had an Ibanez RG of some type, I don't know if it was 6 or 7, but it had an extended fingerboard. I just checked his site, he has a Conklin 8 string now though.

Well, I could put a new fretboard on that is longer with extra frets. You'd have to ditch the
neck pickup
first though. gets me thinking now, hmmmmm, I have an idea, give me a few days on this

Yeah LGM, I would take a neck pickup & just located it where a middle pickup would normally go. Basically, a neck pickup moved back an inch. If you just attached a new fretboard, I'd go with ebony.
If it could be made, I wonder what would look better. Here's 2 ideas:
1. Have the highest fret on the Low B stop @ 27, and then the fretboard would trail diagonally off to the 31st fret at the high E.
2. 31 frets straight across (normal).

Hmmm...that looks very much what I'd like to have. Except I'm not into the
maple fretboard
.

that guy had that guitar up for sale on e bay a couple of weeks ago, the minimum was set at 1999 with the reserve not met, it looks like a cool idea but it would be very hard to reach without the cutaway made deeper.

I would agree. A deeper cutaway would be required. Hey EKG, if LGM could get this neck worked out, ya wanna take a crack at the body?
