I'll add a second voice to the fact that lemon oil WON'T damage your fretboard. I use it on all my guitars, and it keeps the board fresh and smooth, as well as darkening the color. Most recommend at least a once a year treatment, but I treat the board with every string change, and no ill effects. Quite the contrary. It also does darken up the board a bit, but like lgm says, it's not hugely significant. It is noticeable, however. It seems largely dependant on the color and properties of the rosewood on the particular board. With my 2027, after applying lemon oil, the rosewood board almost resembles ebony, a very, very dark red-brown. I have a project guitar I may try the olive oil treatment on. Sounds interesting!
