Re: diff feel

Could be that your friends guitar has been played more, or its older, so its sorta broken in? Does it have the same amount of springs? Ill be the first to tell you you can play 100 of the same model guitars and all 100 will most likely feel different. Never played two guitars that felt the same.

Re: diff feel

It's amazing how much tiny differences in set up affect the feel. You probably can't even see the differences, but they'll be there.

Re: diff feel

could even be the brand of strings. i've heard that different string brands have different tension due to their maufacturing process. even if they are the exact same gage.
do both of you tune the same? I tune E flat, but my friend tunes to A440. And I hate playing his guitar because it's stiffer 'cause he's tuned higher.
his springs may be worn a little if you have trems. it could be a combination of everything.
check the string height on both guitars. check the amount of bow in the neck. see if you can notice any differences in the 2 guitars.

Re: diff feel

It could be the brand of string you use. DR strings tend to be quite a bit more "flexible" than most other brands, especially d`addario.

Re: diff feel

could be a lot of things-

it could be the brand of strings

it could be your action

it could be the springs in your friends guitar are older

it could be just age

or it could be all in your head

Re: diff feel

neck relief makes a big difference..
at least it did on my les paul..especially on my flying v as well.

i have had 3 jems in the past..2 of them (the dy and the bsb) felt really stiff..almost like it was strung with 11's.

the 3rd jem was an sk...it played like butter..it also had a noticably fatter neck.

Re: diff feel

Maybe same gauge, but same brand and string type?

When setup with the same "exact" strings, and the setups are exactly the same, and you block the bridge to take any spring or block varience out of the equation, you'll find they'll feel the same or very similar.

I just finished a JS1, pretty stiff bending stings on. I know why, it's got one of the "mistake" S blocks on the Edge. Longer block, more spring tension in the same string bend.
