Dimarzio Paf pro pole pieces - theres black and chrome, why?

I recently purchased dimarzio paf pro f-spaced humbuckers, but
they had black pole pieces. I have two other guitars with the
Dimarzio Paf pros, but they both have chrome pole pieces. Why the
difference in color? Is there a sound reason for this?
I also bought some FREDS but they have chrome pole pieces, now they
won't match the PAF pros.

I don't get it either, but I share your confusion.

All the 7-string pickups I've ordered (Blaze neck, Blaze customs, PAF 7, TZ 7) all have chrome pole pieces. But my the Blazes in my UV's all have black pole pieces

Of the 6-string pickups I've gotten, the Evos and Super 3 came with black pole pieces, and everything else (Steve's Special, Air Norton, Super, Super 2, FRED) came with chrome pole pieces. Everything I have matches except for my AM, which has a FRED and a Super 3 in it.

This became my solution to this (when putting a Blaze Custom into my RG7-620GN):
Sent the warranty card to DiMarzio, and as I did, I made a request for their current catalogue. While I was at it, I included a note about the pickup, which had chrome pole-pieces and would not match my existing pickup - I pretty much asked if there was "anything that could be done about this," hoping that they would catch the ball...
My catalogue arrived in very short order, and in the envelope was a baggie of 14 black pole-pieces.... Now that's service.
=]
(PS: by then I had already swapped out the poles on the original New 7, same as I had done with my green Blaze Custom to go into my UV7BK... So I have the black poles in reserve should I need to put them into one of the 'original' pickups.)

I don't get this either. *Of the pickups I've bought, Evos, PAF Pros, and Super 3s have had black poles, while Breeds, Humbucker from Hells, and anything with slug+screw ploes have been silver. *But, the Ibanezes I've bought with Evos and PAF Pros have had silver poles. *However, I have an RG1508 with a stock Super 3, and it has black ploes, which don't match the silver poles on the stock neck pickup. *You'd think Ibanez would've noticed and corrected this...especially on the RG-GEAR, which uses the same PU config. *They did fix it in the catalog photo (all silver), but all of the photos I've seen of actual production models have the mismatched poles.

Then again, the mismatched pole types (hex vs screw) on the JPMs always bothered me too..
