DSY swirl pickguard advice - what color to use?

My original DSY project axe has been restored to playability and I am looking for a possible change from the clear pickguard to something different. See JPGs here

Your ideas welcome :mc: ...glen

Well,
That's a difficult one.
With such a pretty swirl you don't wanna cover it up, but then again with the routing you do.

As they are all cold type colours you wanna' follow that theme.
Maybe a brushed aluminium effect, or pick one of the least dominant colours and head that way.

Personally I'd go with the brushed style.

Cheers
Steve

Glen,
I had a similar delema when it came to choosing a guard for my LNG replica. I wanted to stay true to the original, but didn't want the plain black. After talking with Roger at Jeannie's, I decided on a black-pearl guard without the center single coil. I had originally wanted a clear-smoke guard, but his supplier didn't have any available at the time. Maybe he does now.

Smokey-clear would be my suggestion and would accomplish 2 things. Preserve the visual aspect of the swirl and better hide the cavities. The same material could also be used for the back.

I know how easy it is to give into the temptation of change but I like it just the way it looks!

One idea though would be to get a custom 3 layer guard in the predominate colors then have some sort of ingraving on it to bring out*the second and third layer colors.........You could even have the Jemsite logo ingraved on it......

Glen,

I always liked the way you tricked out the wiring cavity (you used black marker on the wires right?). I'd leave it the way it is. If anything, I'd get the headstock swirled or painted a color that looks better with the swirl colors.

thanks guys for the input & ideas. keep them coming! i'm putting new/old pickups in the guitar and need to re-wire. that is one reason i'm considering the change from pink. If i use a clear guard i will re-wire as it was, using black marker, etc ... glen
