E Standard, 10s - springs?

Is it better to just keep the 3 springs in when putting 10s on in e standard, and tighten them right up, or stick a 4 spring in so you dont have to tighten it to much?

I tune to E with 10s, and I use the arrow formation with three springs.

Looks like this (each line is a spring):

I switched from 9's to 10's recently and had no problem with the standard 3 springs, don't remember having to screw the claw too much into the body.

**** I have 4 springs in there now and whenever I put the whammy down, the two outside most spring pop out! and since theres 4 springs I cannot screw in the spring blocking thing. I will try back with 3, but is there any way to stop the spring from popping out with 4 in there?

I used 10-52s for some time and only needed 3 springs - some were arrow formation, but that's about it.

I use 4 - like this

| ||| with the bar that holds the springs on screwed into only the one hole. That way they don't pop out.

Re: E Standard, 10s - springs?

On my 1527 it only tunes down a halfstep with 3 springs in arrow and a 4th spring won't work because the springs love to pop out. I think the springs are shorter than normal though because of how hard they are to get it and how they pop out unlike my 2570's. I use 10's on both

Any suggestions, I want to maybe find longer springs but with a better spring constant (K).... damn my physics classes lol

Re: E Standard, 10s - springs?

The other option - which I employ - is to use the shorter springs. I think standard are 52mm long whereas you can also get 47mm long ones too. There's a page on Ibanez Rules about it in the Tech section:

http://www.ibanezrules.com/tech/setu...ve_springs.htm

I now use these on all my guitars, although to be fair I play 7 strings with 10-46+56, and the added string = more tension than a 6er.
