Edge 3 Tuning problem!!!

My stupid edge 3 is annoying me BIG TIME! Whenever I tune up one string all the others tune down and I keep tuning up and it just dumps my trem too far forward and I can't get it in tune! Please can anyone tell me what is wrong? Usually I can get it tuned eventually but now it just won't settle.

Re: Edge 3 Tuning problem!!!

that happened to me, take it to your local guitar shop and have them set it up again. it's because the edge 3 cant handle the change in string tension

Re: Edge 3 Tuning problem!!!

seems ur springs are to tight i have 3 edge 3's and they all stay in tune relatively well when set up correctly, its all about fiddling with it till u get what ur doing, its how i learned.

Re: Edge 3 Tuning problem!!!

Yeah when I got the guitar I didn't read up on the string gauges I was supposed to use and I had to re-tighten it but obvoiusly I have it slightly wrong. Too bad taking it to a guitar shop is a task of driving a few hours away. It's not a problem of staying in tune it's getting it into tune.

I'm starting to lose it now, I havn't played my guitar for 3 whole days 'cos the stupid thing won't tune! I've tried loostening the springs and tightening and nothing helps. Every time I tune up my strings tune down and the trem just forward dumps! I really need help.

Re: Edge 3 Tuning problem!!!

Welcome to the world of floating trems

Just keep trying you have to find the balance between string tension and spring tension

You said usually you could get it tuned evenly, have you done anything different lately: changed string guage or not stretched your strings in properly.

Oh and you can try Rich Harris' trick of applying chap stick to the knife edges and trem posts to lubricate them. It prevents the trem catching on the posts keeping it in tune It works wonders

Re: Edge 3 Tuning problem!!!

The only thing I've done lately was when I tightened it a while back when it was forward dumped and after that the tuning has been a puzzle, it was manageable but now it's almost impossible, and it doesn't help that I'm using the wrong string gauge. Tonight I shall try to find the right balance to get it in tune and hope that I don't break a string and have to repeat the process between then and when I get my 1527!

Too tight? The trem will nose up if too tight, down if not tight enough.

Prydogga the normal Ibanez gauge is .09 - .46 (? or is it .42), if you're heavier you'll definitely nosedive the trem and may need to add another spring for .10s and thicker.

Don't worry, next time round it'll be a dawdle.

Re: Edge 3 Tuning problem!!!

I know it's supposed to be .09 but mine is .10, and I can't add another spring it already has 3. I'll check out the tech section anyway to see a way to fix it because there are no guitar techs, music shops or anything of that nature in town.

Re: Edge 3 Tuning problem!!!

if you have 10's you need to tigth the springs. That's the reason because you can't tune it without getting the bridge foward.

Re: Edge 3 Tuning problem!!!

Okay Rich's tech section helped alot, I have to tune my strings higher than they should be to keep them from going flat when I tune other strings.

Re: Edge 3 Tuning problem!!!

Old post but I thought I'd just ask whether restringing my guitar in .09 to .42 would help.

Re: Edge 3 Tuning problem!!!

Well if you want to use .10 strings you just have to screw the trem claw screws a bit deeper into the body.
