EDGE long block - wich years? wich models?
ive recently installed an used
EDGE trem
on my RG270 (some routing needed), and ive noticed that the block is longer than the other trems i`ve saw... and i know the 570 have the edge trem (and the same body dimensions that the 270), so wich years where they produced and in wich models came??? JS? S?
thanks

Re: EDGE long block - wich years? wich models?
I've heard that the Roadstar from the mid-80s used a non-recessed Edge, which necessitated the longer block. I've got one of these Edges too, and in chrome to boot, which strikes me as double rare.

Yeah I've installed one of these, an 87 version on my '95 RG470.
The
trem arm holder
is not recessed on the early versions too.

What your noticing is the fact that your 270 has a different depth, it DOES NOT have the same routing at all, its in fact even smaller than a japanese version of the same guitar, all around. The Js and s have a smaller edge block on them correct me if im wrong.

Different routing technically, yes, but the body dimensions on a 270 are essentially identical to a Japanese counterpart. The depth of the trem cavity, in this instance, is irrelevant since either way, the saddles of the trem have to sit at the same height relative to the top of the body, and thus the
trem block
would reach down to exactly the same depth on either body. Believe it or not, the trem block is actually longer on Edges that were meant for non-recessed bodies.

The bodys are roughly the same shape but the dimensions are quite different imo.

Re: EDGE long block - wich years? wich models?
the RG270 is thinner than a Japanese RG. IIRC it's 40mm vs 43mm. i've got both and i noticed it immediately. anyway, yes, non-recessed Edges had a longer block and arm-insert. i also think there are three types of block, as you can see below:
it reads:
S
block: 540R
HS
block: 540S
HV
block: JEM, UV

Re: EDGE long block - wich years? wich models?
I've never seen a block cast HV. H, S, and HS are the 3 castings you'll see, and all JEM, UV, JS's, RG's all have HS blocks which are the shortest block they make. The long blocks from the non recessed versions aren't cast with a code, but their part number is EDGE 15.

Re: EDGE long block - wich years? wich models?
Interesting, i have an '87 Radius with an Edge with a screw in bar holder (not sure thats original anyway), no
retaining bar
for the springs... but the body is "a lil" recessed nowhere near as deep as my RG...
I was thinking about filling the cavity, and leave the trem flush to the body... but now im not so sure, if im gonna need a longer block then its a no-no.... :/
