Edge pro eating bushes

Hi all i have only owned my rg 2550e a few days

and noticed the whammy bar bushes need replaces already
the bar does not stay in one place it always fall down

making it hard to make the cricket sound or warble like mr steve vai does

just wanted to know if there is any tech fixes available

i'am not a heavy whammy bar user so this makes me think there is and adjustment somewhere

any help will be awesome

thanks jsdisciple

Re: Edge pro eating bushes

Remove the bushing, apply a thin layer of clear nail polish in the grooves, then replace the bushings when the nail polish is dry. If the bar is still loose, apply more nail polish.

If that doesn't help, the bushings may be so worn down that you just need to get new ones. They're cheap. Try ibanezrules.com

Another possibility is that you're not pushing the bar in far enough. It can be really snug on a new tremolo. Are you pushing it in far enough that it clicks into place?

Re: Edge pro eating bushes

Thanks moro for your fast reply

i have changed the bushes supplied with the guitar

and the bar is still very sloppy

i have made sure the clicks into place,

thanks for tip using nail varnish, i can see what you mean by it
the varnish will make the bushes stand out more

is there and adjustment from the trem cavity for the whammy bar!!

thanks jsdisciple

Re: Edge pro eating bushes

The nut that holds the arm barrel to the bridge may be loose. You can tighten the barrel nut with a 10mm deep-well socket wrench.

I saw the title and thought there'd be an off-color joke in there...

If it were true, then it wouldn't be too hard to convince my gf to let me buy another guitar...

Yeah, I've found that on my 5 month-old RG2550. It's pretty irritating. I just learned to live with it.

Re: Edge pro eating bushes

Easiest, cheapest solution is use a small disc of plastic from a Daddario string bag, bank money bag etc. Hold the disc over the hole in the bridge and push the bar in.

Nice tight fit and lasts for ages

Re: Edge pro eating bushes

You guys must be doing something wrong, the trem cannot be at fault here.

I've changed the bushings on my HAM (LoPro not EdgePro) on September 13th (just checked the receipt, still in the case) Now, I am a heavy trem (ab-)user, and it still stays up.

I can feel the bushings have worn slighly, but at this rate it will probalby last me another 6 months or so.

One caveat, my guitar is on a stand and doesn't go out much, ergo the bar stays in, perhaps you should take more care in removing/installing the trem. Also make sure the bushings (washers) are installed correctly:

(there must be a dozen other threads on this..)

Re: Edge pro eating bushes

clear nail polish trick is the end all solution. The trick is to let it dry overnight. I know it sounds crazy, but it works better if you let it dry overnight.

You can always retro fit a schaller stlye bar to it.

I prefer a whiskerless kitten.

Seriously dudes, if your guitar is eating bushes then don't take it in the garden.

I am actually with eviltwin on this one. The bushes need adjusting the more you remove the bar.

Re: Edge pro eating bushes

You can swap the Edge arm system for a Schaller/OFR arm system. Its been done many times, I've done it to my Edge, and to a few other Edge/Edge Pro systems.

Re: Edge pro eating bushes

Just tighten the nut on the underside of the bridge.

Better yet, remove the nut, apply nail polish to the threads on the arm barrel and then put the nut back on.

Trust me. The barrel is loose and is rotating in the bridgeplate.
