Edge pro to lo pro

I'm putting together an ibanez body a prestige 2570 and I don't have the edge pro trem. I've seen the pics where the wings of the lo pro trem hit the current routing. Could I just sand down the wings and a little bit of the body and it would work or are there other modifications>?

Re: Edge pro to lo pro

The only way to fit the lopro without creating a piece of junk, is to carefully route t he opening. It absolutely can be done as long as you follow some precautions. First, go to stewmac.com and get a routing template for recessed floyds and a 3/8" template router bit. The template is not real thick and it will need to be raised above the body(best to probably get a chunk of 1/4 or 3/8 plywood from Home Depot). you can just cut an oversized hole in the plywood. cover the top of the body with blue painter's tape(to protoect the finish), tape the plywood so it can't slide around, then tape the template on top. Try to NOT overlap the tape on the template because the router is going to ride on top and a tape ridge will not help. Using a good carbide bit SHOULD make a nice clean edge without chipping the paint a lot(if at all). I have done this kind of mod on a few(just put an edge lo pro in a JS100) but it calls for patience and skill. Go slow, measure twice and route once. When in doubt, just do a little at a time. Time and tape is cheap. If you rush it or do it half-a$$ed, you will regret it.

Re: Edge pro to lo pro

I thought i only have to cut back the wings of the lo pro or sand back some of the wood by the wings of the lo pro a little bit for it to fit cuz that's all it looks like in the pictures

Re: Edge pro to lo pro

I think what albee is maybe saying is that the route for the lo-pro is a bit deeper as well. The entire trem on a lo-pro is recessed into the body. (Correct me if I'm wrong on this).

the two pics at the bottom of this thread make it seem ok and i emailed rich and he said sanding or dremeling back would do it but I want a second opinion just in case

Re: Edge pro to lo pro

ohh and I think the first guy was talking about the floyd rose lo pro not the ibanez if I'm not mistaken (correct me if i'm wrong) because they only sell ones for floyd rose and schaller recessed trems not Ibanez

Re: Edge pro to lo pro

I've installed an Edge into a LO-TRS II guitar, just using some sand paper and a dremmel. If the Edge Pro posts are the same spacing as the Edge/LO Pro just sanding/dremmeling should be just fine. Take it easy, and it should be right. I put some masking tape down on the body to mark my lines to sand up to.

Re: Edge pro to lo pro

so is depth an issue cuz I was under the assumption i diddn't need to make it deep just a little wider in spots to fit it. And should I even bother touching the paint up? It's the vital prestige finish so it'd be hard. Or should I trim the tremolo itself down and not touch the body?

Re: Edge pro to lo pro

If anyone would know the in's and outs of these trems, it's Rich or the others. My only expertise I bring into this conversation is hour upon hour of searching through these threads on Lo-trs to edge pro or lo-pro modifications. More power to ya if all you have to do is sand the edges to make it fit!!!!

Re: Edge pro to lo pro

How much deeper do you need to make the cavity? You could always dremmel or route, or just shim the neck maybe?

Re: Edge pro to lo pro

I don't know if you have to make the cavity any deeper I'm hoping not. I'm hoping i only need to cut back some wood or metal to save my self a hundred

Re: Edge pro to lo pro

btw the neck is screwed in with screws with some glue on them to taking the neck off is definetely possible but I'd reather not do it since it's a hassle. So i'd rather not shim the neck as it's kinda in there good right now.
