Edge Pro uneven string height

Hi,
I have an Ibanez RG1570, and have recently noticed that the height of the D string is a lot lower than the others. I have taken the trem unit (Edge Pro) out and had a brief look to see if it was anything obvious, but I am not sure what could be making it lower than the rest of the strings.
Could someone please tell me what I need to do to alter the height of the string?
Thanks

Re: Edge Pro uneven string height

Chances are the saddle needs shimmed and the rest of the saddles will likely need properly radiused as well. Rich does this on all the guitars he sells.

Thanks for the response, but which part do you mean? Where are the shims placed?
Thanks

Re: Edge Pro uneven string height

The shims are under the saddles. Different numbers of shims can be used to raise each saddle individually until the radius of the strings is correct. Then the action is set by raising or lowering the whole bridge.

Re: Edge Pro uneven string height

I believe it is the uneven inserts. Is yours a 2003 model? Cause it is fairly common with Edge Pro from those years. I just swapped saddles around until they are even.

Re: Edge Pro uneven string height

yes mine is a 2003 model. i hadn't thought of swapping saddles around, but i cant unscrew the intonation screw to take them out as i've stripped the head on it. anyone know where i can get a new one in the UK?

if i was to use shims, what would i use/where would i get some?

Re: Edge Pro uneven string height

If your going to move them around, make it so the shortest saddles are on the E's and tallest are both in the middle. Some people think they go in order of hieght, but they have to have a radius to match the fretboard's radius. Also I'm pretty sure there's a tutorial on Ibanezrules.com on how to remove the stripped out intonation screws, you should check that out.

Re: Edge Pro uneven string height

The saddles on an Edge Pro are all the same height -- there is no tallest and shortest. The radius comes from the baseplate and the shims. Some did have the problem with the inserts not seating correctly (i'd replace them if it were mine). Rich has pictures of the badly-seated inserts and the stripped intonation screw repair on ibanezrules.
