Edge replacing original Floyd -- will it work?

Yo,

I thought I'd done about every trem swap possible by now, but apparently not. Never put an Edge into an OFR body before and need some advice.

I have an old Kramer body that was equipped with an original Floyd Rose. There is no recessed routing for pull ups -- only the main cavity for the trem arm and block. I have a couple of Edges around and figured I might use one for this project, but have a couple of concerns. I don't have any OFR's around to compare with the Edge, so I thought I'd ask if anyone has been through this before and can help me out.

The first question is whether the Edge MUST sit lower into the body than an OFR and would therefore require top-routing of the body (the 1/4" recess found on most Edge-equipped Ibanez). That might be the case if the saddles on an Edge sit higher in the trem relative to the trem posts as compared to an OFR. Or something like that... I haven't thought it through well yet.

The next question is whether the stud location is the same for these trems. I think the answer is yes, because in the past I (along with many others) have swapped Edges into Lo-TRS equipped guitars with no need to relocate the posts. It's been said many times here that the TRS was very similar to an OFR. So I should be OK on that score, without any intonation problems, etc.

Finally, it looks like the OFR route doesn't remove as much wood under the trem arm holder as an Edge route. On this body, there is a "shelf" directly below where the trem arm goes that must be removed. Apparently, the arm holder on the Edge is much longer than that on an OFR, causing it to collide with the unrouted shelf in the OFR route.

Anyone have any observations or tips before I proceed with this operation?

Cheers,
Bert

(Edit: By the way, I know that this sort of thing has been discussed many times before in the forum, but I sure can't find it using the search. Found lots of similar threads, but nothing about the top recess in particular. At least I tried...)

I've got an early Edge that was off a top mounted guitar. Worked fine recessed, trem block is a little longer than the recessed versions.

I'm guessing you may or may not need to get a long trem block, but otherwise I'd imagine it would be fine. Posts should line up and all.
