Edge Spring Lock question
Just a quick question. I bought a used Original Edge off the 'Bay earlier this year and it didn't come with the Spring lock bar. Now the springs haven't shot off yet, but just in case if could happen I would rather get the lock to be safe. Now if I order one from my local store will the one used on the
Edge Pros
be a direct fit for the Edge, or are they different?
Many thanks for any help.
(If anyone has a spare one with the two screws that they can give away that would be cool too!
I'm a little poor at the moment, but will go buy one if needed)

Re: Edge Spring Lock question
This doesnt answer your actual question
but out of the dozens of guitars ive owned over 20+ plus years
ive never had a lock over the springs...
(if my jem777 had it originally with the edge tremolo i took it off i cant remember)
Ive never ever ever even came close to one of them flying out.
I personally dont think you should be really that concerned.

Re: Edge Spring Lock question
Yeah, I would say just keep your trem
cavity cover
on there and you'll have no worries in the very very slight chance that one does fly off.

Re: Edge Spring Lock question
I've had one fly off in the middle of major tremolo abuse. If you find screws that fit, you can come a long way with "something".

Re: Edge Spring Lock question
Problem is my trem cavity cover doesn't fit! It's one of the original non-recessed
Edge trems
so the
trem block
is longer than the one found on RG ones. I'd rather have one to be on the safe side, and I don't really want to cut down the trem block as I think having more mass is helping with tone and sustain.

Re: Edge Spring Lock question
Should be easy enough to cut a new trem cavity, try projectguitar.com, theyve got a guide on how to make one there
.
I had no lock on my RG570 for years while i had 10's on there (needed 4 springs) and i didnt ever have any issues with it. My EBMM doesent even have a lock and no probs there either.

Re: Edge Spring Lock question
Why do I need to cut a new trem cavity? The trem cavity is a standard RG one, it's just the trem block is a little too long.

Re: Edge Spring Lock question
I know Frankenstraat sells block replacements made
out of brass for more sustain. It fits most trems..but im not sure
about the edge.
Might be worth looking into if you want a shorter length but at the same time
keep the higher mass.

Re: Edge Spring Lock question
I'm missing the lock and the cover on two guitars. I was worried but the springs don't pop off even when I completely slacken the strings. It's true, you could drill two holes into just about any piece of metal if you could go to the hardware store and find some screws that fit in the block. I'd probably use one of those computer case PCI slot covers and hacksaw and sand it down to the right size, then drill holes in it.

Re: Edge Spring Lock question
Here's another suggestion....
Why don't you email Rich and ask him if he has the piece for sale? I doubt it will be more than 15 bucks. You can't be that poor.

Re: Edge Spring Lock question
Yeah it's just difficult arranging to pay and get it seeing as I'm not in the US.
I'll just check with my local distributor.

Re: Edge Spring Lock question
i think longer trem blocks won't have the springs flying off, since the major lenght makes them more angled where they attach to the block. i never had any spring flying off long trem blocks of mine, while a couple did in short blocks. i won't go thru such a mess.

Re: Edge Spring Lock question
No, I've got the trem cavity cover as I wrote, it's the trem block that's too long for the body that stopping me from fitting it.
