Edge stud problem!

My friend has a RG570 with an edge and had it poorly setup by someone who looks to have put 10s or 11s on instead of 9s. Now the stud on the right side is fine but the left one is turning with the anchor thing it goes in and isn't raising or lowering because its like stripping. It looks like the added tension the bigger strings made pulled the bridge foward into the stud on that side therefore bending it and making it inmovable, and when we added pressure to turn it it got stripped. Anyone understand this and know if thats why it happened and what needs to be replaced? I need to let him know if he should send it to a shop (which they mite not figure it out) or try to fix it ourselves. Thanks...
