Edge Trem problems - wacky scraping sound

I have 3 7 strings: an RG7620, UV777BK, and an RG2027. *on both of the RG's the trem arm makes a funny grinding/scraping noise when it is rotated in the trem. *how do i fix this? *has anyone else had the same problem?

haha, yeah it doesn't go through the amp, but since i'm a perfectionist, it bugs the heck outa me! *my RG7620 has taken a lot of abuse over the years, so I'm not too surprised that it's doing weird stuff, but my Prestige is just a few months old, so why is it doing this?? *i tried fixing it with a small file on my RG2027, but all that resulted in was a scratch on the trem's paint

It's most likely the spring that holds the bar in the socket. You can try bending it out a bit to relieve the pressure against the bar and see if that doesn't help.

Or, it could possibly be the socket itself has a bur or other damage on the inside. Click the "Ibanez Rules" banner and talk to Rich. He can get you the sockets and probably has them in stock.

hmmmm... does that little spring even need to be in there at all?? *I took it out, and the scraping sound is gone, and the trem arm still seems to stay in there just fine, because of the little washer thingies on it. thanx.

i don't believe the spring has any use, other than to provide a weakly clip-lock the bar in. The springarm fits where the tip of the tremolo arm indents.

if your white bushings are tight, the spring can be removed with no problems. Again the worst that could happen is the arm work it's way out a little bit after alot of use... glen
