Edge3 Replacement Tremolo

I have an Edge3 Tremolo on one of my guitars and I want to replace it with something else. It's horrible and is tarnished and never stays in tune. I don't really want to shell out on another OFR, but I was thinking a really good licensed Floyd Rose would be good. Can anybody reccommend me something?

Schaller, Gotoh, Ping. Those are 3 of the makes that I would look at.

Re: Edge3 Replacement Tremolo

you must know first that ANY other trems except the Edge-Pro and Edge-Pro II will require routing works on the cavity to accomodate.

Re: Edge3 Replacement Tremolo

If it doesn't fit I'm sure there's just a little bit of sanding (or dremmel to speed up the process if you have one) around the cavity to fix it.

Re: Edge3 Replacement Tremolo

I've done an OFR replacement to a 350EX that was a direct drop in. Same thing with an LTD M-400, but that's a different story all together.

PING

Hands down, the best OFR copy out there. In fact, it's the only LFR to bear the Floyd Rose logo on it's baseplate.

I can attest to it's durability, I own one.

Re: Edge3 Replacement Tremolo

isn't the edge 3 rout the same as the edge pro 11? because your earlier post said the edge pro 2 and edge pro doesnt need routing work to retrofit an edge 3 rout. so im assuming the edge pro 2 and edge 3 sizes are the same. and my gotoh i used retrofitted mi edge pro 11 rout easily. so it should go in unless the edge 3 rout is smaller.

yep, but somehow you can't do vice versa. unluckily i forgot to take pics when i tried to fit a Gotoh in an Edge-III rout but i took one with a Schaller Floyd, which is exactly the same shape and dimensions of the Original Floyd and the Gotoh as well. it would fit dimensions-wise, but the post holes are moved too backward for the Gotoh knives to fit in. take a look...

Edge-Pro into an Edge-III rout: it fits.

Schaller (Gotoh) Floyd into an Edge-III rout: it doesn't fit.

unluckily no. the back side of the "wings" would rock against the cavity, and the string lock screws as well. take a look...

Edge into Edge-Pro cavity (JS1200CA): no fit

same thing with the Lo-Pro:

Lo-Pro into Edge-Pro cavity (JEM7VSBL): no fit
