Edge's whammy bar clearance

Can I adjust the angle in which the bar protrudes out of the base of my edge with the arm holder wrench in the back (10mm I think?) The holder is currently level with the angled wing of my edge and it's basically touching the body with just barely diving it (maybe 1 inch clearance or so?)

It'd be easier to diagnose with some pics...But the arm holder is suppose to be flush with the base....You sure your bridge isn't kicked forward too much?

No, it's not. This prob is on my rg, my S series of the same year (both using an edge) have the same flat level clearance and no tuning issues. The S series bar is like twice as high though.

Might be a dumb question but have you pulled both bars out and looked to see if one's bent? or switched them to see if it's the same problem? pics would help.

Re: Edge's whammy bar clearance

Ironically, I'm using the same bar for both. The guitar in question was given to me with a what I can only describe as a left handed whammy bar. It points the other way, and it caused the arm holder to also work differently. It now kind of pops into place rather than sliding into place. If I use the left handed bar though, its much better for clearance and I can dive great....its just weird having this bar pointing the other way...

Re: Edge's whammy bar clearance

I even just readjusted it and tightened the claw screws as much as a possibly could and stay in tune. Is it possible that the arm holder is in backwards to compensate for the original left handed bar? Or am I thinking about that incorrectly. Using the original bar gives so much more play in the down diving but less in the up pulling. Its vice versa for the regular bar from my other edge, little dive down play...but I think I could break a string if I pulled up hard enough.

Re: Edge's whammy bar clearance

Ok so I got some pics, if anyone has any suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it.

Heres the two bars side by side, notice the one on the left the bend in the bar goes the other direction (why I called it "left handed"):

Heres the bar clearance with the left handed bar first (plenty of room, dives great):

Now here's the regular right handed bar (strings barely go limp at all, with the bar touching the body):

Now the only thing I can think of, due to the volume knob position on these old rg's the original owner modified the arm holder to use some sort of left handed bar (its almost nice, the dive spot is where the bar doesn't touch the knob because the bend going down instead of up) Does anyone have any ideas?

Re: Edge's whammy bar clearance

Your right-handed bar has a tighter bend at the base than the left-handed bar.

If you want to raise the height of the bar over the body (without raising the bridge), the only thing you can do is to bend the bar so that it angles up higher where you want it. You can put the bar in a vise and gently bend it -- but be careful because they can snap. Don't put any force on the thin section where the nylon washers are.

Re: Edge's whammy bar clearance

It's weird cause the bases are slightly different too. The left handed one is longer, from bottom to bend, as well as from bottom washer to the tip.
