electrical noise on guitar help!!

HI

a couple of days ago i noticed a kind of electrical hissing noise when i plug the guitar in. But the noise only happens when i am not touching any of the metal parts of the guitar. But when i do touch a metal part, such as the knobs or bridge, a kind of pop happens and the noise seems to dampen down.

Also when i move my hand closer to the pickups the noise gets louder and more intense, the noise also interacts with the lights, so when i turn the light more brighter the noise get more intense, but then at mazimum brightness the noise dampens down again.

I also notice that my volume knob became alot more stiffer, and rougher as if there was grit in it. And shortly after this, about a day, that noise came.

Can you please help me on what the problem is. All help is appreciated.

Thanks

Re: electrical noise on guitar help!!

Sounds like your guitar has become an antenna that sends all signals it picks up straight to the amp.

Just to make sure what you're talking about: is it a high pitched hiss or the hum created by the 50 Hz mains (or 60 Hz in the US)?
Sometimes this hum may sound like a higher frequency depending on which components are involved and how strong the induction is although it's still "only" hum.
If it's 50 Hz hum (and even if it isn't) you should check the ground wiring in your equippment. You mentioned problems with the volume pot. Although it is unlikely that the hiss or hum is related to the changed mechanical properties you described, it may be worth to check the wiring of the volume pot in particular. Frequently, all ground wires in a guitar are connected by a single soldering point on the volume pot and if this one goes bad...
