Fernandes Sustainer in a RG550, enough room?

So yeah, my 550 should be arriving sometime next week and I've been throwing around in the old noggin the idea for a sustainer, does anyone know if there's room under the pickguard to mount everything including the board and 9v without any body modifications aside from the obvious toggle switches in the guard? I will not do it if I have to chop into the body at all.

You need to cut into the body to make space for the large circuit board and again for the 9V battery. I have one in my RG570 which is basically the same guitar minus the scratch plate. He is a link to the back of Steve Vai's Guitar "Flo" my RG looks basically the same now:

You will see the rectangular battery bay and the large plate at the bottom (slightly bigger than the trem springs cover) which is required for the circuit board.

Do you want to lick your guitar like steve does? If you master the art of controlled feedback you don't need a sustainor and negate the need to tounge your guitar

Dude, I play at bedroom levels in an apartment, plus the sustainer is cool, and yes, I want to molest my guitar

Re: Fernandes Sustainer in a RG550, enough room?

Sustainiac is the *** mans Fernandes

Robb, If you want the toggle switches where Vai's are (the most common spot) you will have to get the chipboard routed from the back of your guitar (even though you have a pickguard) if you do that then you will have a hard time adjusting the trim pots on the back (which is a must). and one of the battery wires connects to the output jack and they are only about 3 inches long so they need to be on the back of the guitar right after the trem springs.

You could have the toggle switches on the pickguard but you might bump them. that way you can have the chipboard right under the pickguard and no holes in the body.
