filling screw holes

hey, under the humbucker mounting ring i can see the guitar has multiple holes and i would like to start a fresh, can i use a filler to fill the holes up then screw into the filler??

i will probably be refinishing the guitar in the next few months anyway after i have some time after my uni exams.

Re: filling screw holes

What I once did was enlarge the holes and then plug them with wooden pegs with wood glue as well. Then after refinishing the guitar I screwed into the pegs or into the border between peg and body. My fear of just using filler was that the screws would simply loosen later on. I guess this is affected by the type of filler you would use.

Re: filling screw holes

This is what i call a useful thread. All my damn backplate screws have come loose over the years. Please tell me someone has a solution, especially if refinishing isnt an option.

Take some tooth picks, put super glew on the end and put them in the screwholes, then just snap them off for proper length. Now the screws should be nice and tight when you put them in.

Re: filling screw holes

If the screw holes are just stripped (loose), I just put a drop of wood glue in the holes, put the screws in loosely and let it set overnight. The glue sets up around the screw but doesn't stick to it (wood glue, get it). Is should be fine the next day and it's cleaner than having pieces of toothpick in them. Of course, anytime you overtighten a small screw like that, it will strip in wood or metal.
