FINAL Lo TRS Swap Thread

Hello, i recently bought a second hand 1996 Ibanez S470DX with a LO-TRS 2. I've read nearly every thread on this site about swapping, supposedly the OFR and Floyd Rose Pro both just drop in with no mods to the guitar.

Anyone actually done a swap of this kind before, can anyone here that KNOWS for sure what bridge's can fit in the LO-TRS 2 cavity without mods?

A friend of mine just replaced a Lo-TRS 7 for an OFR-7 with no mods.

If you don't want to route for an Edge go for a Gotoh FR.

Re: FINAL Lo TRS Swap Thread

The original floyd rose will require no modifications to the body, and I have done this. Its easy enough to want confirmation on something like this, but this is possibly the most common thread in forum history ever. The original floyd is a direct drop in.

The lo-trs is maybe good enough to use as a paperweight.

Where as the original floyd rose will last for years and years and still work wonderfully.

Re: FINAL Lo TRS Swap Thread

the guitar is currently 10 years old approx, i dive down like crazy and pull up and it returns to CLOSE to perfect tune (you'd never know it was out unless you were looking at a tuner), im assuming when it starts to go really crap and cant stay in tune barely at all then i should replace?

Re: FINAL Lo TRS Swap Thread

Exactly, and then replace with a Gotoh FR. Even better than an OFR.

Re: FINAL Lo TRS Swap Thread

the main thing is that it fits perfect without any sanding down or anything like that. any idea how much an OFR goes in AUD$?

Re: FINAL Lo TRS Swap Thread

OFR is like $400AU. Get a Gotoh version, cheaper, better design.

Re: FINAL Lo TRS Swap Thread

fckin $400 AUD! what a rip. Is the gotoh exact same dimensions (drops straight in)? how much for the gotoh? I'd like to order that in gold and have it installed for me at venue music in sydney. Also whats so great about the gotoh?

Re: FINAL Lo TRS Swap Thread

The Gotoh Floyd Rose style trem has the best design in terms of whammy bar holder, you can tighten or loosen it by an allen key on the side of the bar holder and the bar just slides in, no screwing or anything. The baseplate and knife edges (as far as I know) are hardened steel and the trem block appear to be brass like the OFR.

It's also cheaper than an OFR. Gotoh are the manufacturers of Ibanez high end trems like the Edge, Lo Pro, Edge Pro.

I think there's only one model, it worked for me no problems.
