First Tung Oil Project: Advice

Ok, so I got my dirty GASsy hands on a nice WALR-J neck, aka bound, sharktooth, original wizard neck, but there are some stains on the backside, so I figure, I'll lightly sand it down, then tung oil her. So I'm guessing, sand down lightly, then oil her up, let dry, sand and repeat?

BTW, the project is going to be above mentioned neck, all black hardware, original edge trem, RG570fm body, the redburst one from 91, so square heel, and even got my hands on a hollywood, CA neck plate! Now to find some IBZUSA pickups, anyone got a full set? Red and grey preferred, but black is fine too.

What I found VERY interesting about tung oil is that people actually use it on the fretboard, is that correct? I have an old RG565 that I was thinking about giving this a shot, does it affect tone?

Thanks guys. This forum ROCKS!!!

The technique sounds right to me.

I don't think that tung oil on the fretboard affects the tone, it just helps keep everythin feeling good.

Oiled necks are the best way forward. THey really do make a difference.

careful if you are allergic to nuts. Tung oil is from a tree nut.
